Acer Aspire One ZG5 won't boot up solution

A friend/neighbor had trouble booting up her Acer Aspire One ZG5 (white laptop) and asked me for help. When you press the power button, the power button just lit and no response from the screen. It's a total blackout even though the batteries are charged or you are plugged directly to the power outlet.

I found out that the problem is the BIOS software is busted, the BIOS informtion is gone that's why it's not booting at all. The solution is fairly simple. You'll be needing:

  • A USB thumbdrive

  • A computer where you can download Bios update 3309

  • Bios Update 3309 Software

  1. First download Bios update 3309 here, then extract the zip file.

  2. Copy the extracted files to the USB thumbdrive

  3. Rename FLASHIT to FLASHIT.EXE

  4. Rename 3309.fd(bios file) to ZG5IA32.FD (Precisely like that)

  5. Insert your USB thumbdrive into the usb port of the left hand side of the laptop make sure the charger is plugged in to the laptop.

  6. Hold down keys FN+ESC and press the button, when the power led begins to blink release the two buttons and press the power button just once. (Follow the timing very well as this needs some practice.)

  7. Observe the usb stick flashing indicating it's flashing the BIOS, wait for a few moments and the laptop will not boot automatically.

The source of the problem is unknown, I had her laptop re-flashed some months ago and the problem occurred again today. But I have a speculation since I asked how they handle their laptop, she told me that her daughter play with it and place it either in soft sofa or bed. Now there's no room for exhaust and no ventilation for the laptop underneath. Overheat the laptop and screw the BIOS system.

I suggest they buy at least one of those CD-King laptop coolers.
